Question type: General

I just bought a '92 f-150 XLT is has a "power switch" on the dash.  What is that for, it's
not in the hand book. Is the XLT two or 4 wheel drive???

i know alot about this year. i believe the switch is for swiching fuel tanks. ford lariar comes in two and four wheel drive. is your truck like a standard truck (two wheel drive) or is it raised way in the air(4wheel drive) if it has a axle on the front it is 4wd.

Thanks so much. I am taking possession tomorrow, so I will check it out. I do know the rear fuel tank is inoperable and there is a separate switch for that. It is pretty high up and I would doubt that it's a 2 wheel if that switch is there?? I'll provide further info soon.

how do you know the back tank is inoper? Yes!! There is WAY too much things that are not in the owners manual. I have a 96 and am dealing with several issues. it's probably for the gas tanks. Did you turn the key on and not hear the back pump turn on?? Or did you drive down the road and not get a reaction when you turn on your back switch?? Have you checked your fuses on that ( you have a series circuit relay and ECU relay beside each other near fender side) ?? also there is a fuse on that series circuit as well, the yellow 20 A. I pulled this out when on the front and rear and the motor quit each time I pulled it for each tank I selected. Did you take your instrument gauge cluster cover off ( 7mm)?? Take the bottom off and then the top cover will come off ( after fighting wtih headlight switch). When you reach your fuel selector switch, test your blue/white line with a probe light/ find a ground obviously.. have you done that?? I need more information to see why you would assume that the back tank does not work, instead of saying you just bought it and it doesn't work. if you take the back cap off and have "battle buddy" turn on your key to the on position, you can hear the pump working up pressure ( if it is working that is). Do the same thing to the front tank. if you can hear the pump turn on at the turn of the key, then you know that it is working. if you don't hear it, bad news. how do you know it is providing proper pressure to the injector... whole different game, and check light WILL come on if it isn't. throws computer off. good luck)

Fuel pump won't turn on engine light or cause computer not to operate properly it just doesn't start the CPU will still fire the coil and the injectors but nothing to burn
