I am used to a 1987 260E which has a very quiet shifting transmission.  I bought the 1999 C-280 in February.  To me, it seems as though the transmission is noisy compared to the 260E  How is this transmission different in design from the 260E?

the fact that the newer vehicles transmission is built with much lighter weight materials, makes it louder
