Is the tapping sound consistent with the rpm of the Engine? When was the last time you changed the oil?

the tapping is consistent with the rpms however it only does it when put in gear, take it out of gear and the tapping stops. it does sound like lifters but it stops when taken out of gear even if you race the engine it will not tap unless it is in gear.

I have a tundra v8 also. My problem with the sound is a leak in the exhaust manifold.

The Toyota 5.7 liter was designed with an acoustic air intake flow system this allows air to flow through the intake with the RPMs of the motor this design causes the noise that you are hearing my truck is the same way when you put it in gear it begins the tap louder because the air resistance is changing because the stress on the motor. totally normal but annoying I've noticed it's a lot quieter with the windows down it seems like it's mostly cab noise I actually sprayed rubber sound blocker underneath the hood to reduce the sound in the cab.

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7 and it is blowing oil out of the valve cover gasket the valve that the vent hose is hooked to. What could be the issue. It has 330,000 miles on it. Great truck.

I have a 2012 tundra and mine makes the knocking noise when it is in idle and when in gear until it warms up. And again as above will only happen in the winter months when it’s cold out. Any ideas out there what may cause this. I use full synthetic and change oil every 5000 miles.
