Problem with the check engine light.

Asked by tumbleweed10 Jul 15, 2020 at 11:45 AM about the 2002 Toyota RAV4 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the day after I had a smog check and passed my check engine light came on. I have a  Rav 4  2002.  Smog station said they did nothing wrong and it was just a coincidence.Took it to  Toyota and they said  found code  PO 440  evap emission control system malfunction.  A hose got disconnected from the charcoal canister  to   the fuel tank. Reconnected  the  hose and cleared the code.  Went back to the smog station.  They denied any wrong doing and would not reimburse  for what  Toyota charged.  What do you think ?  smog station responsible  or just a bad coincidence  check engine light came on day after smogged ?
