Question type: General

I need to replace the engine in my 2004 Toyota Corolla. What are the differences between the "thru 4/04" and "from 5/04" engines? Does it matter which one I purchase as long as the model is 1ZZFE? How do I tell which version I currently have?

the ZZ family of engines are all similar- but stick with what you got because the electronic engine controls must match up-

Looking on eBay it shows that the 1.8L engines I'm looking at are compatible with my 2004 LE (5th vin number R). But the LKQ description further down shows the engine compatible with Corolla 2004 "after 5/04". I'm assuming this number represents the cars manufacturing date. But the actual manufacturing date on my vin sticker is 7/03. I'm concerned this could be an issue.
