Question type: Maintenance & Repair

this week i was driving my corolla down the road, it bucked a couple of times and that
was it a little while later i noticed the clutch pedal felt a little funny and then going
through an intersection the front tires locked up in 3rd gear, the engine was running
fine but shifting into neutral it wouldnt move. when releasing the clutch it wants to shift
by the rpms going down but wont catch also when you rock the car the engine moves
so i know its the transmission. would it be the clutch or the entire transmission i have
checked the slave cylinder and made sure its working, but i know these models have
had issues with their transmissions in the past my car has 268000kms on it. also i
heard that matrix's transmisssions fit what model would be my transmssion ?

A transmission from any Corolla from 2003 to 2008 model year will work. It's the C59. The Matrix has the same transmission married to the 1.8L 1ZZ FE, so that won't matter. The exception is 2005 and 2006 Corolla XRS. All other trims '05 - '06 will work. Where did you hear these cars have transmission problems? News to me. The Geo/Chevy Prizm also has same transmission, matter of fact it's the same car, different badge

Thanks, i was told from a local mechanic that the shifter fork bolt inside the transmission may be the cause of the transmission locking up?

I couldn't answer that with any real certainty I have never taken one apart personally. I have looked at engineers drawings of the guts, but maybe somebody else knows?
