Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Power steering pump or hose is leaking
can that fluid get back in to timing belt and
cause any failure on timing belt. I just had
the timing kit put in and mechanic said that
the timing belt had oil on it . Could it be
from possibly cam seal or other seal from
timing area itself? Should I change pump
asap to not cause premature damage to
timing belt? Can gorilla tape work around
edges of timing cover?

The "mechanic" that serviced the timing belt is incompetent. I STARTED (April 10,2016) answering questions on Car Gurus for a total of 16 days! and it's more and more of the same OLD... I must comment there are so few REAL Auto Techs in 2016 it's a DISASTER! keep In mind ASE certification means nothing. I DO understand its work to stay current with modern electronics and embedded system modules..100's on current vehicles etc. That's why I expect 000000 figure income. BUT simple old time hose inspection, seal examination and logical advice and service, can only be explained as LAZY ~~ INCOMPLETE ~~BAD IMAGE~~for this service sector..

An oil soaked timing belt is a disaster waiting to happen. I would get the leak fixed and replace the belt.

You might consider having someone test the CRANKCASE VENTILATION SYSTEM. This should be done using a manometer. A defective PCV system could cause NEW SEALS to leak.
