Camry 1993 Sunroof Problem

Asked by CorreaE Aug 15, 2016 at 12:20 AM about the 1993 Toyota Camry XLE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As I opened my sunroof and as it slid backwards it
made a loud banging/snapping noise. The sunroof
opened completely. When I attempted to close it, it
traveled normally to the 3/4 close position and
stopped as it should but then moved very slowly
the remainder of the way to the close position. In
the close position, the rear edge of the sunroof
would not raise up to meet and create a seal with
the main roof. Any recommendations?ml

Toyota has had several Sun/Moon roof problems which ultimately generated several Factory Service Bulletins. This will most likely be a heavy repair bill....much of the interior of your vehicle needs to be disassembled to replace broken plastic parts. Considering a car this old....you might consider closing the door as best you can ...cleaning the sealing area of dirt....and taping the seal with heavy duty clear shipping tape. Last time I looked into a Sun Roof repair.....Approx. $1000.00 parts and labor. not a fun job. Good Luck
