Feels like its going to die

I just bought my car & im
starti g to think i got f#×k.  
When i first start to drive it
sputters and feels like its
going to die i press on the
gas and keep it up till it
seems to run its course
maybe ablout a mile or two
then is fine the rest of the
day.My check eng light is
on.i've changed spark
plugs in try better gas.and
i tryed to do a diagnostic
but my car.  Doesnt have a
set up for that. Can u help

Try a good fuel system cleaner like Techron.

I'd suggest getting a repair manual for your Toyota that explains how to pull trouble codes for your OBD I system. Once you have the trouble codes you can go from there. Most places don't have the equipment anymore to deal with OBD I (1995 and older) vehicles anymore. Hope that helps! Jim
