Can I put a 2004 Chevy trailblazer LS 4 wheel drive 4.2
engine into an 06 model?

Anything can be done, but there are differences between the two years. 06+ has an MAF sensor and temp sensor is in a completely different location. If you do the swap, most importantly is to bring the PCM that came with the new engine. Otherwise, using the old PCM, won't work.
