I am looking into getting new rims on my 2006 Impala LTZ and just wanna know if the size change with affect any electronic systems.

Question type: Car Customization

I have 17 inch rims on my car right now but am looking into 18 inch rims. I have a tpms system, and because I live in Canada we want to keep my other rims for winter tires. if I put 18 inch rims on my car with or without my tpms on them will it mess with anything? we have had a few problems with our computer on it so we do not want anymore problems. I work in a car shop but it is one of those things ive never really asked or found anything about for my car.

if you use a shorter tire to offset the taller wheel you will be fine. it's called "plus one sizing". just make sure the overall diameter is the same. you will need new tpms sensors for the new wheels if you want that system to work properly.

I had 17s on my 2010 and switched to 18s, 225/55/17 to 225/50/18 same diameter, everything works the same. TPMS will need to be reset but thats easy to do.
