Service brake system light 06 Chevy Impala

06 Chevy Impala
My emergency brake hasn't been working my brake light
is on and I see a service brake system message on my
dash. The other day I was driving my car I went to stop
and the car wouldn't stop. I ran into the back of
someone's car. I drove it after and pumped the brakes
and it worked idk what happened. I would like to know
what do you think the problem is.

You may have a leak in a break line, caliper, or a wheel cylinder causing the master cylinder to run low on fluid. Of course do not be driving it until it is fixed.

Pumping the brakes to get it to stop is usually an indicator of a bad master cylinder. There is also a sensor plugged into it that monitors the fluid level which would explain the light coming on if the fluid was low. Have a full brake inspection done asap.
