I just bought this Pontiac this past Saturday. Later that day I started getting messages on the "DIC" to "Service Engine Soon" however no codes when I try to retrieve them. What could be the issue?

Asked by Doug13111 Oct 19, 2015 at 07:38 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It had 75,766 miles at the time of purchase.
After trying to retrieve the code I started to
get "Electric Charge Failure" however the
alternator is charging at 13-14. Both of
these messages goes away without any
issues that I can find. Could the computer
be giving false errors, if so what would be
the fix? Of course, while it is still under
warranty.

It depends if it's on steady or flashing. If it flashes your car needs attention very soon. If on steady it may be something minor. I recently decided I could cut a corner and run regular unleaded gas. Well the car had different ideas, apperently that premium fuel on the inside of the filler door isn't a suggestion. They really mean it. My service light came on and after a bit of looking in the book I found that after a few tanks of the right gas it should go out. Two tanks later and it did. I hope it's something minor. Good luck.

Thank you both for your prompt replies! I believe I have found my issue, the battery terminal was very loose. It literally just sitting on the battery post. I tightened it up and have not had any issues since. Again thank you!
