What actually causes the "Check tire pressure " message to display? I have checked the tire pressure and they are with in a pound or two of one another. ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does it look for a differential between any of the tires? If It is a sensor does the online computer capture which tires have the differential? Is the sensor a difficult part to replace?

should be a transmitting cap...no mysteries~ and a button to "reset" to the current proper pressures...no, it doesn't go "online"~ just a fancy cap...nothing too sophisticated~

Several things could be happening, 1) One of the sensors could be failing or already failed. 2) If ones vehicle is equipped with a full size spare tire that also has the TPMS installed, the spare could be losing pressure and send a signal to your dash. 3) One tire or all tires could be over inflated which would also send a signal. TPMS alone typically cost $45.00 or more and would require a shop to unmount the tire, remove the old sensor and remount and balance the tire or tires once again.

the computer establishes a thresh-hold to which if changes occur, the light comes on...more like compares it's previous measurement to the current measurement...if you've a leak...the light comes on~ kinda silly...like you cannot tell when you're gettin' a flat tire?

hah, Bob.. The image (I'm assuming you painted it) doesn't do your post justice.. Otherwise our state does not require that we have the TPMS installed on our van, Thus we have removed the system but must contend with the "TPMS light" thereafter.

Tire pressure sensors have batteries that are designed to last 7 to 10 years. My guess would be that your 2004 model tire sensors need to be replaced. Most sensor systems look at tire pressure difference.
