1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP squeaky belt while driving.

Asked by Guru5N5HF Jan 21, 2018 at 04:24 PM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr GTP Supercharged Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently I had to change out my 1998 Pontiac
Grand Prix’s tensioner pulley due to some
squeaking while driving. I replaced the required
pulley wheel and set the belt back onto the required
pulleys. I started up the car (no out of the ordinary
sounds), and took it for a short spin down the road,
and the squeaking started up again. Is there
something I could have missed?

small amounts of oil/coolant can make it squeal , try a new belt if all else fails or some belt dressing , painters caulk , wiper fluid

Goodyear gatorback belt, but they sold the belt design to continental ask part store, usually can get them. But spin pulleys and idler wheels, unhook battery than spin alternator to make sure all are spinning easily. Wash off belt and pulleys at car wash just before you change belt. And of coarse you probably looked for coolant leak at plastic/aluminum elbows and water pump weep hole. And no offense to others, for f___ sake don't use belt dressing. V belt old school trick.
