COOLANT & PERFORMANCE TROUBLE! 2.0!

Asked by Harley Apr 30, 2016 at 07:40 PM about the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Also was wondering if because of my dirty coolant
can it cause my Rpm gauge to jump as I slowly
accelerate? Or could this be another problem?
With that said when I have to use power or "floor it"
so to speak it goes quite well. Otherwise seems
that the motor runs great for it having such high
miles.  Ohh and are there any parts that I could
maybe take a look at or purchase to better prolong
the life of my engine?  Thanks for your help

No, coolant won't make the Tach RPM gauge jump unless its spilling on electrical connections under the hood. You can follow the old timers method of watching oil consumption.. 1 quart used in a thousand miles time for a rebuild. adjust accordingly for seepage of oil or slow drips, just observe oil use. A some what more contemporary approach in 2016 is to perform a leak down test on it, to gauge the overall wear. Maintain fluid levels and it will hit its inherent design potential. It won't harm to change filters every now and then. Regards
