I have a 1993 Audi V8 that sat for 3 years, driven very little. Car was trailered across the US last week only to have the following problems: Shifting from reverse or anyother gear to park the ABS light comes on followed by grinding. Shift back to any gear and the abs light goes off and the grinding stops. Also when the engine is running, several electrical systems don't work, i.e., headlamps, power windows, climate control, power seats, etc. When the key is in the acc position, all the interior electrial systems work perfectly. What is going on, the car was in perfect working condition pre-trip.

Who knows what is wrong but sitting is really bad for cars. You could have mouse damage to wiring and all sorts of things can be gummed up. I would check all the fuses and change all the fluids and filters for starters.

The Audi can not be flat towed. If it was towed with any of the wheels on the ground. Internal transmission and or center differential damage, will occur. As well as driveshaft and or axle failure. I am going to assume the vehicle will not move. As far as the electrical system. There is a possibility that the ignition switch has failed or there is a broken or loose wire that feeds these circuits power when in the run position.

Thanks for the insight. indeed i will be changing the oil and filter, air filter, cabin filter and checking all fuses again. The car was on a trailer during transportation, not a car dolly. She does move under her own power but changing from any gear to park the abs light comes on and the horrendous grinding persists until i put it back in drive or a different gear. I'll be checking the ignition switch but finding a switch for a 24 year old Audi could prove difficult.
