my 2005 mercury GM transmission will go in reverse, but not forward, what
could be the problem?

Anywhere from a bad shift solenoid to a burned out internal clutches. Best to have it towed to a good tranny shop so they can run stand alone test to determine if it electronic or mechanical problem.
