2001 Mercury Grand Marquise

Asked by Jwest37 Nov 16, 2016 at 12:43 PM about the 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 01 Grand Marquise is not blowing heat. I just
replaced the thermostat and I seem to be getting some
heat and it was starting to get warm but not hot as I
had it on 90 degrees (all the way up ) all of the Dash
setting for the blower motor works perfectly.. this is my
issue.. in the summer my AC never worked when I
purchased the car I have had it for 2 months now so I
figured I will not worry about the ac because it's now
fall and might not need the ac so nvm (I'm in GA) now
it's getting a little chilly and I turned on the heat to find
out nothing, so  I could not leave the house because
the windows was frosted over and could not see
nothing....what other options do I n have with this....

Note: The Coolant Looks dark and green looking.

What temperature thermostat did you install? Did you "burp" the system to get all the air out of the cooling system?

Park the car facing up hill and remove the radiator cap (when it is cool) and idle the car with the heater on until all the air is out of the system. Top off the coolant if needed.

Until the car is fully warmed up. That way the thermostat is open and the air can escape. Maybe go another 5 minutes once the temperature gauge reads normal operating temp.

It can't hurt to flush and drain the coolant system and install new anti-freeze. If it has been a couple of years since it was last done I would recommend it.

Or do it yourself. If the car does not overheat I would drain the coolant and use a bottle of engine flush - follow the directions. Drain that and install new coolant 50-50 water unless you live where it is really cold. In that case follow the directions on the anti-freeze bottle.

I should say that if the radiator hoses are old, replace them too.

You a rock star Thanks i have a few Trans issues kinda confusing but will work on this first

Ok The car was starting to b get warm But not real quick I'm thinking it may be the bad fluid what are you thoughts? If so how do I clean or flush the system without causing damage to other components?
