edmission smell in the car and sometime the car wouldnt start

May have an exhaust leak or a plugged catalytic converter, unless I'm reading your question the wrong way, maybe you have a fuel smell and it's from flooding the engine or running rich (dumping unspent fuel into the exhaust). Do you by chance have a check engine light on? Could be something simple as a vacuum leak or faulty sensor, or it could be something mechanical. Have a shop check it out.
