Question type: General

Periodically, my check gauges light comes on when I'm at a stop. Car then
goes dead. I turn the car off and then back on and it runs fine. I also noticed
that when this happens, the oil pin drops to zero.

It's probably normal for the oil pressure gauge to drop to zero the instant the engine stalls but not before. Your oil pressure comes from the engine turning the oil pump. And if your "check gauges" light comes on to say something is not normal...maybe zero oil pressure of the stalled engine is being detected. And you can self diagnose (engine fault codes) why the engine stalls by turning the ignition key from OFF to ON three times quickly, stopping at "On", without starting the engine. The odometer will display fault codes, then display "done" when it's done. Google those numbers for the meaning. It will look like P0320 or P0193, etc.
