Manual Trans stuck in second gear

I put my car in second gear while car was
not in motion and turned of now i cannot get
out of second gear but the shift stick moves
around and starts just fine, what is causing
it to be stuck and what do i need to do to fix
it

I assume u can start it with the clutch engaged, correct? If so shut off engine and have someone move the shifter around and u look at the linkage on the trans to see if its binding. Or disconnect linkage there, turn offf engine, engage the clutch and see if u can put it in or out of gear there at trans
