Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1992 Ford Thunderbird
supercoupe 3.8 V6. We’re racing the
lemons race and we changed motors. My
question is it the motor cuts out after about
20 minutes to safe mode should we reset
the computer and how do you do that?

Do you have any codes? The simple way to reset the computer is this one: with the engine off remove the positive battery terminal, wait 5-10 minutes and replace the terminal, turn key to the on position and count to 10, then start the engine. If you have a check engine light, it should be clear now. Some people remove the negative terminal in the battery, I have tried both methods with same results.

The car goes into safe mode because there is a problem. If you can retrieve the trouble codes you might be able to find out what is going on. Safe Mode is designed to prevent further damage to your engine or emissions system not that you care much about this in a LeMons race. Good luck!
