Radiator?

Asked by Joseph Mar 04, 2016 at 08:20 PM about the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My temperature gauge reads hot but my
radiator cap is cool to the touch as well as
the fins. The inlet hose is hot but I have not
checked the outlet hose yet. My temperature
light on the dash has never come on and I
am curious as to what temperature it
activates. I'm guessing the core is clogged?
Please help.

Radiator fins being cool along with the cap, means the thermostat is not opening up. The inlet hose would be hot. Its the radiator hose that runs to the thermostat housing that is cold until the thermostat opens up.

The top hose from the thermostat housing to the radiator is hot. It also has pressure

If both radiator hoses are hot, but the radiator is cool, it sounds like the radiator is plugged. Probably needs a flush or rodded out. Coolant is not circulating.
