Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle and have changed the alternator 5 times now
in the past 2 months, I replaced the tensioner pulley and belt also. So last
week we ended up putting a Motorcraft alternator in and it ran good for 2
days and now my battery light and charging system light is on again. I'm
wanting to know if I have ac in the back seat do I need a alternator that says
rear ac or just the regular one. The Ford people said It could be my battery
cable going to the alternator. Help Please!

The #1 cause of repeat alternator failures is high resistance in the battery. Causes the alternator to run at high amps continuously which burns up the new alternator. To test, you'll need an amp probe. Place it on the negative battery cable and start the engine. It'll show 30-50 amps for a few minutes and then drop down to less than 10-amps. If it stays high, the battery has high internal resistance and that's the problem.

Apparently the issue is not the alternator. I would not trust that Ford dealer. try another local garage.

Oh I will never go to a Ford Dealership again. I took it in a month ago and paid to have the technician look at and see what was wrong and he said it was my CD player and so they disconnected the CD player and a week later the same thing happened again and now they said to replace the alternator and battery cable and wanted to charge me 1500 and I ended up having to have my car towed to a mechanic and he put a Motorcraft alternator in and it worked fine for 3 days and BOOM it did it again. I have rear A/C in my car and he did not put the Alternator in for rear A/C and my dad is saying he put the wrong one in.

Hi, on a 2005 ford free style only one alternator works. My explain, the one that comes with a/c in the back, only one work, u cant put the one with no a/c in the back, the charging plug r different, there is no way that the mechanic put the alternator on the one that have a/c in the back to the one that have no a/c. Unless he cut the charging plug and put the other one. Hope u cam understand what im trying to explain.
