02 ford escape issue

Asked by Nyrick85 Oct 27, 2018 at 10:40 PM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 02 escape xlt 4x4 i recently took it to the
shop cause i was hearing a whine/humming noise
which i sworn its coming from the rear of car so
when i got to shop mechanic drove car then put it
on lift and said i need two ball joints and a tie rod
so i said ok fix it but as soon as i picked up the car
i started to drive and i could hear the noise again
so i seen i had one tire on the rear pass side that
had some dry rot and cracks so i had that tire
replaced think it would solve issue but nope i still
hear this noise its only when im driving i would
hear it i friend to me when i drive to turn the wheel
left and right to see if noise stops that it could be
wheel bearing i did that but noise stays the same
and also once in a while whennim going up a hill
around 40 mph the car would gave like a grind
noise only if i stay at 40 if i let go of gas then press
again it stops but that is once in a while the car
has 118k i owned it since 110k

Check the rear differential lubricant and universal joints. Your mechanic owes you one.
