using tons of engine coolant

Asked by Tanner Feb 07, 2018 at 11:18 PM about the 1994 Ford Ranger XL Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1994 ford ranger with the 2.3 in it. I have to fill up the engine coolant
reservoir every week or so. I know i have a small crack in the radiator but the
amount i see leaking from there is not enough to be where im losing that much.
Anyone have any ideas where it could be coming from. The truck seems to run
fine, it idles rough sitting at the light every once in a while but not all the time.

A small crack can leak a lot of coolant. Use some Bar's if you want to plug it on the cheap, or throw a new ($60) radiator in it.

This is What I would do if I were you, 1) figure out how much coolant is being consumed and where the coolent leak is ( for example is it the reservoir leaking or is it the radiator leaking. 2) look into addressing the problem you can add some additives like stop the leak but the best option is to address the issue with either soldering the radiator or replacing it or replacing the reservoir tank Additives are not a solution to the problem they in my case caused my head gaskets to leak
