2004 Monte Carlo overheating

My 2004 Monte Carlo started to over heat I ran the
air and it's now overheating it will run for 6 min
then say coolant temp to hot I've put oil in it and
the water pump was replaced also coolant is half
full

Is it OK to drive like this the thermostat wasn't replaced when water pump was.
