Car salesmen will damn near sell their souls to make a sale. If you see no oil at ALL of the dipstick, I'd say he was lying. I'd be curious if there was a big puddle of oil UNDERNEATH the truck though. Personally, I'd pass on this one to play it safe!

I think tennisshoes summed it up in 6 words! The"oil reserve" (NEVER heard of such a thing, by the way) the salesman was talking about was on the ground under the truck! Run!! and don't look back! Good Luck in finding a more suitable truck...and Please DON'T buy this one!

Tammy...Hopefully our answers were helpful in your decision (hopefully to NOT buy this truck).

There is no oil reserve...tell the salesman to show you the oil reserve in the owners manual and on the truck - see if he can do so with a straight face... if no oil is showing on the dipstick and it still runs properly at idle, tell him to take it for a spin on the highway on a down hill portion and see what happens...it is possible (but highly unusual) that someone stuck the wrong dipstick in there ... I am with the other answers - run from this salesman - not just this truck.
