Why does a grinding sound come from my car when I turn the wheel? Sounds like it's coming from the wheel well of the drivers side.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told I need new brake pads, as I only have 2mm left on the pads.  That was in August, it's now December.  I don't have much money, what pads would you recommend for a girl on a tight budget?

Although there are differences in pads, in your case I would recommend finding a repair shop that has a reputation for fair and honest work. They will use a quality pad and do the job at a fair price. Probably about $100-$150 per axle.

Hi Taver91! Thanks for your answer. I just moved to Minnesota from California and don't know of a reputable repair shop or anyone to ask. The dealership is way too expensive. I went to AutoZone.com and saw some pads but don't know which ones to choose, can you narrow it down for me? When you say per axel, that means front axel and rear axel? Or each tire? I feel so stupid. Please help.

The standard pads they offer will do the job. I always opt for the ceramics because the make less dust that will adhere to your wheels. The cost is usually quoted for both wheels on an axle since it is always best to replace both sides at one time. There is no need to replace both front and rear unless they are both worn down to the minimum. It is not a difficult job if you want to keep your cost down and all you need are pads.
