Steering got hard because the power steering pump was not turning when the engine shut down. It is possible that this is electrical, or a fuel issue. I would start by checking the fuel pressure first since it had started back up for you, but change out the fuel filter first before checking the fuel pressure. Make sure the carb is not flooding out also.

Ok now today i went out to truck stated right up and went into reverce then didnt die right away when i adjusted the idle screw on carb then it didnt want to go int drive but finaly did but its still idleing rough but its getting fuel it could be the fuel pump is what i will check next.

The idle mixture screw, adjust that when the engine is all warmed up. Turn it in, clockwise until you hear the engine rpm go down. Then turn the screw out until the highest rpm is gained. Keep the rpms down around 600 to 650 when adjusting it out. May have to be turning down the idle screw. Get the idle mixture screw out until there is no more increase in idle when at 650 rpm. From that point turn it out further another 1/4 turn. Then that is set.

2 mixture screws on the Motorcraft 2 bbl carb. Follow the above procedure on both sides.
