Why are there so few cars now on the Searches

Question type: General

This used to be the best car buying site around.  Now there are only a handful of cars which come up under searches for unlimited distance.  What happened here?????

It could be that there are fewer listings in your area? I still get several results depending on the car.

NO. I am currently searching for an Infiniti M37. Last year when I did the search a 100 or more would come up, from all around the country, when selecting unlimited distance. Now I get only a handful. And very poor choices. Something has happened here. I read in an article 6 months ago that there were complaints about this site at dealerships (probably because it was so spectacular in its selection process), so I believe either they are being boycotted, not allowed to display as before or some other issue. I am certain something significant has changed here. In the past one could do an autotrader or cars.com search and many of the same cars would come up on cargurus. No longer.

I just typed in my zip code 96761, unlimited, and got 5. I tried the same for 90210, and got 50. The unlimited function does not work right. In the past we would get 100's of cars from all around the US, not it subselects regionally. This is no longer an unbiased search from around the country.

Not sure.. I'm just a site user like yourself. Maybe contact the staff at CarGurus see if they can resolve the issue or know of any. Regards.

I just entered zip codes from around the country, and the same thing happens. Unlimited search only gives a limited number of regional results. California searches only give california cars. Unfortunately this negates the real benefit of the prior search algorithm. I am certain this has something to do with the complaints against the site I read about last year. Mostly sales types complaining about it. When I bought a 2011 M37 based on this site 2 years ago I had unlimited access to dozens of top deals around the country. After 20 minutes here I have to search in each regional zip code, and the cars choices are worse than auto trader in many cases. I would love to know the details why things were changed, which type of vehicles/dealers/etc are no longer searched as before.

Thanks Mark. I did send them an email. If you try a search for any used car now, you will see what I am talking about. The "UNLIMITED" distance search is only regional, not coast to coast, and I know for a fact there are 100's of less cars coming up in the search compared to 2 years ago. Things were too good before, too quick, fair and easy for the consumer, and I believe dealers felt they were dealing with unfair competition in the way the site used to list the Great deals nationally. For example, here in Hawaii, a 2011 M37 at the time was going for $40000 when doing a local search. CarGurus found me dozens for under $35000 with the identical options, condition, etc. Now the search does not allow that unless on types in regional zip codes. And the number of cars is markedly down compared to some other sites. So something has changed. I would be willing to pay for the old algorithm and dealer/seller base.
