Seriously? The difference is explained in the name. A flat 6 is 6 cylinders layed on their side firing horizontally in a 3 formation of like 3x2 whilst a V6 is a 2 banks of 3 cylinders firing at a 45 degree angle thus forming a V shape with the banks. i'm gonna make one more post just to show you a V engine

why would the make two seperate motors why not just use the same or is there a horsepower difference

It's a fuel difference a layout difference a car difference horsepower varies size varies weight varies. look up the engines on google

A flat 6 cilinder is a boxer engine. they use flat engines in subaru and porche because it feels diffrent when u drive it + it makes a special noise

yes jonas its all about making "special" noises. The reason it feels different is because the engine is effectively reduced in height which changes the weight distribution under the hood. Think about it what's easier to drive a cube van or a low sports car? that's the same idea throw the engine lower and you get a lower center of gravity which eases control but let's not get into CoG right now

a flat six is a flat engine shaped like an h but with 2 extra cylinders added but its layed flat in the engine bay and those engines are very good to give a car a lower center of gravity which will in turn make the car handle much better.

A flat 6 is in a subaru It is a v6 flattened.. A pancake style engine. it is horzontial instead of a v pattern

there are alot of different reasons to make a "flat" motor. one, is that yes there is a difference in power. right out of the box these motors have alot of torque and are very strong. they also have a much lower center of gravity and are usually smoother running because they are easier to ballance. but if you think that flat stile engines are strange you should look up rotary engines like those found in mazdas. way cool motors there

Thank u!!! points are wll proven!!No replacement for displacement is the rule!!!! Flat 6 has so much strain on block halves it is unreal a v is so hard on the crank. Due to the firring order.. Hence the even fire 238 very uncommon. You have a v that tries to twist the crank out of the block.. Then u have the h trying to push the block halves appart. The diff is the center of gravity. The H6 is lower but wider than the v6.. Same trade offs the v has more power but has a lot more twist. lower center has more stable power.. iminge a drift ur fuked if you twisted it.Hence most of the are 240's and an inline 2.0+ engine or for the higher hp cars "Pormod" u have to torque steer. the h takes that away

Flat is an inline like a cummins and a v6 the pistons are in a v shape 3 per side

dustin you are wrong. a flat is like a porche, gen1 bug, corvair, and even the tucker. a cummins is like a jeep 4.0, ford 4.9, mac maxidine, and even the old millitary trucks. hears a picture of a flat engine setup.

a flat six the cylinders are laid out dierctly opposed to eachother like a boxer engine iun a subaru or a porschethe engine cylinders are opposed at 180* in a horizontal line a v6 the cylinders are opposed at either a 60* angle or a 90* angle, a v-shape. thats the major diference theres alot of smaller ones such as how fel is deliverd and such but thats the major part
