The two are unrelated. A won't start condition with a lot of lights to me means a weak battery. Check the voltage. You want over 12V to start it. BMW's need fully charged batteries to operate. An a 2008 model the battery needs to be resisted to the car to charge properly when replacing. Have a BMW shop do this for you or you will have charging problems in the future if you don't. Running with the e-brake on for a short distance didn't hurt things, you probably wore down the e-brake lining some and heated them up. No worries there.
