How does the buying process work for private party lien vehicle

Asked by Guru1F1B4 Oct 07, 2019 at 05:09 PM

Question type: General

I finalized price with private seller. The car has lien
on it. So 2 questions :
1)if we have to do the transaction through
cargurus how does the process work? Will
cargurus payoff lien and get title for me? How do I
register it to my name?
2) will cargurus charge me (buyer) any taxes like
the dealership?

I suggest you do the deal at their lenders office. This way you are assured that the loan is paid off. They may or may not take care of the DMV paperwork. CG's does not charge tax, your state does.

Thank you for the response. The seller is inclined to sell it through cargurus since they think carguru will payoff their lien and do the title transfer paper work . So I am confused on how cargurus will ensure I am getting the title while I make the payment . Cargurus are not picking calls to answer queries either.

I wonder if they owe more than the car is worth. I would be inclined to look for a different car with less buying hassle.

We can't help you here, this is a public car repair forum. Use the Contact Us link for help. Like FOR said, sometimes now worth the hassle.
