How to sell

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I just bought a car two days ago and now I don’t
really need it. I bought it from an individual and
haven’t even registered it yet (yes I signed the title).
Is there a way I can sell it without having to wait a
month for the new title with my name on it to come
in the mail? I know I will have to pay the taxes on it
but I don’t want to wait 3-4 weeks just for a new
title to be sent to me. Any suggestions?

If you signed as buyer on the title then you have no choice but to wait for the new title. Most states have laws against "curbstoning," which is buying and reselling a car without transferring the title into your name. Every state is different so check on your BMV or DMV website what is required when selling a car. Most states require the buyer and seller to sign the title witnessed by a notary public, or in the presence of a title clerk. That said, there are degrees of what you can get away with when selling a vehicle still titles in the previous owner's name.

you can also ad the new owner to the title as you and them own the car and they can remove you for a few dollars more during registration.
