2001 5.3L Chevy Silverado 310,000 miles

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I know scraps when it comes to vehicles & I'm
having a couple of issues with no luck in
diagnosing them & being on a budget I'm trying not
to fix things that aren't the problem. My 2001
Silverado keeps dropping to a low or 0 oil pressure
& is running really rough. Poor gas mileage, shakes
while in idol, has a weird tick while in idol usually
goes away when accelerating & is gone til we are
in idol again or it remains faint. Sometimes it just
shuts off not even like a typical stall out. There's no
check engine light either so guess there's no codes
to pull? It also barely wants to pick up speed. One
mechanic looked over it said he's puzzled cause it
kept running when he opened a valve or something
& it should have killed the engine. Any info would
help. Really don't want to pay for a wild goose
chase if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance!

Low oil pressure will make the truck run rough, tick and stall. Like chevy said, the engine is worn out. Perform an oil change and use some thicker oil and see if that helps to get you by until you can purchase a new truck.
