Will a 4 80 or460le work in an
1989chevy pick up 1500

I don't think the E would let this work, that tranny has an electronic shift, your vehicle isn't built for that type of tranny. You need an older non electronic shift tranny, like the 700R4/4L60. 4L60 and 4L80 will also be different lengths, the 4L80 is a lot longer, so both transmissions can't be interchanged without making other changes.
