Overheating 06 Jeep commander limited 5.7 hemi. Fender mounted overflow tank was low I topped to full when hot level.still continued going towards the red line on temp gauge so I shut off and had towed on flatbed home. What do you suggest it was 95 degrees out with 109 heat index .

Overheating 06 Jeep commander limited with a 5.7 hemi in it . Fender overflow
tank was low or empty .I Filled to full level when hot .still continued to  climb on
Temperature gauge. So I shut off and got flatbed tow home. Oil looks good no
antifreeze  in it . What is wrong with my normally great running Hemi 5.7 .

There is a few things that can cause overheating bad thermostat , fans not coming on , clogged radiator , bad water pump
