Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all, my 97 bantam 1.6i sometimes struggle to
start when hot, when the problem occurs the car
starts like on the fourth try, and when I start it idles
very low and dies when I want to accelerate it
immediately dies, so try it about four times or so
then it is fine. And another problem is that it is very
rich on exhaust fumes when it idles or when I drive,
when I drive with only the Driver side window open
I can hardly breathe, but when two windows are
open no problem

I would recommend changing the fuel pressure valve. While you have the fuel line apart turn the key on and see how much fuel comes out (should be a good bit)also when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Also you need to change your 02 sensors. The computer has defaulted to send more fuel and check your map or maf sensor(unplug it if the car dies it's bad) or might need to be cleaned but only use the map/maf sensor cleaner.

O2 sensor is located just before and just after the catalytic converter. The map/maf sensor is located just after the air filter box.
