Asked by Joshua Jan 31, 2020 at 01:05 PM about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm an idiot I understand that. I ran out of gas the other day now my truck cranks
over brand new starter, new plugs, distributor cap, now I'm curious my truck is
an 89 but it has a dual carbureted motor! What the hell type motor is this under
the hood of my truck?

You have a TBI equipped engine, that means it is first generation fuel injection. When you run out of fuel in one of these it usually burns up the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. You will need to run a fuel pump flow and pressure test to confirm. If you do replace the fuel pump make sure you replace the fuel filter and the fuel pump relay at the same time.
