Why are these dealers asking more for
vehicles with manual transmissions than
automatic transmissions?

Prices depend on a lot of things other than transmissions like mileage, options and condition.

Automatics are not standard...and need to be special ordered...probably not the same maker and needs special ordering at the factory...perhaps they are not as reliable? my wife insisted on an Automatic for my MINI cooper...it's a mini pooper with the troublesome CVT automatic...so maybe there is something with reliability...you could check the recalls and technical service bulletins to see that perhaps the automatic just ain't no good~
