1966 amc rambler 232 straight six

I just bought my rambler about three months ago,I
have rebuilt the carburetor and put all new brakes
on with a couple of other minor fix ups. Now I have
noticed that my oil pressure gauge isn’t reading
along with white smoke coming out of the exhaust,
and a hard time changing gears with never passing
60 mph. I’m just wondering what this could be
caused by, oil is clean and full, trans fluid is clean
and full, and I haven’t noticed any other issues off
sight with the engine. Does anyone have an idea of
what this could be caused by?

Make sure you have oil pressure. The white smoke may be from a leaking head gasket.

I would not call it easy but it can be done. If the engine has a lot of miles you should consider rebuilding it.
146,000? 246,000? Do an evaluation of the engine. Compression test and maybe even an oil analysis. If you pull the head look for a big ridge at the top of the cylinder bores. The transmission issues are another topic.

White smoke is definitely a head gasket but that has nothing to do with low oil pressure...try a can of K-Seal with you can get a Wal-Mart or other products you can get at Auto Zone...a cheap temporary fix for under $20 which may last for a few months...otherwise when you tear into the motor, might as well replace the oil pump or at least clean the screen.
