Corrosive buildup around def filler.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Around the DEF filler and cap is a white buildup on my 2015 Sprinter.  The
service guy at the RV dealership where I bought it said it is supposed to be
there and that I shouldn't clean it off.  If that is the case then I couldn't even
fill it.  What is the fact of the matter?

Two choices...try and clean up the area with some water.... I don't know how bad it is...yes, it builds up and can look nasty if it spills... you need to be careful......OR...go to the Mercedes Benz dealership...

Thank you. Now another question arises. In my reading I find that DEF has a short (6 months or so) shelf life. I won't near use all the fluid in 6 months . So what happens then? The coach is 3 years old and has 21,000 miles on it. Most years will get between 3-5 thousand miles. Does that mean going to the dealer and having the DRF drained and refilled every year?
