Does a 2005 Cadillac STS Rear Wheel Drive Have a 'CV Boot' on the Front?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay - I know this is a stupid question but I had my car in getting a state inspection and
the shop just called to tell me that in order for it to pass inspection I needed to have the
driver's side CV Boot replaced.  I told them that the car was rear wheel drive and wasn't
sure why it would need/have a CV Boot on the front that would even require replacement.
Is it possible that there is a boot related to the power steering linkage that they might have
been referring to or did my car somehow become AWD after I dropped it off?

Your Cadillac is equipped with independent rear suspension so it has CV joints at the rear of the vehicle on both axles. Apparently the driver's side rear CV boot is torn or leaky. Get it replaced before the CV joint goes bad.

Bob - Thanks so much for your prompt answer. The part of the equation that is confusing me is that the shop told me that it was the front CV boot and since I only have RWD I have no idea why there would be a boot of any type associated with the driver's side front.

The only boot I can think of on the front might be a boot on the steering rack at the tie rod end one each side. Perhaps the person that told you miss-spoke or you have magically gotten an AWD.
