Battery not charging and overheated on a 1998 Cadillac deville

I was driving and all my dashboard light cut off and
I had to coast in a parking lot then it wouldn't turn
over I got jumped off I put it in gear and then my
car died I replaced the battery drive good till I got
home the next day went to get food then it
overheated so bad that my car wouldn't do
anything Now it turns over but says service
charging system and my battery lights on help

How would I check the serpentine belt (not a car person)
