fuel pump problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1979 Ranchero Gt, 351M. Changed out electric fuel pump. Went back to mechanical, had to use a fuel filter and a rubber gas line.(pump to carb) The metal hose was gone. Starts and idles fine, but a very noticeable power loss. The electric pumps died, two in 1 year. They were on the mounted in the engine bay. Does the timing or Carb need to be readjusted after the switch. Thanks so much.  Gary

Update: I bumped up the timing just a hair. The idle sped up. I have the power back, lost after switching back to a mechanical fuel pump. I added a second fuel filter going into the fuel pump. The wires are new, going to pull the plugs next. It runs well, the carb is new. The distributor was also replaced before I got the truck, Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Gary in Virginia.
