i am about to start a rebuild on a 1980 gmc with a 350. i am a avid hunter and need it for pulling a large trailer up some steep mountains on highway and sometimes up trails (tires depending).

Question type: General

its is an automatic tranny with a 4 barrel edlebroc. Pretty sure the rest of it is stock. Looking for the best option  as far as performance camshaft and possibly boring maybe .30 over....maybe aluminum heads? it has a single exhaust thinking of dropping another pipe on it?

All sounds nice, few suggestions, first is are you keeping the carb? As far as the block, .030 over is fine, go with a flat-top piston, The cam, a sports cam would be ok, i went with Com Cams, look them up on the net, tell them how you want your motor, they can make the right recommendation for intake, carb. & heads. Holley can match you up also. You'll have to decide how much gas mileage you want to loose, but a good old Chevy motor you just can't beat. Aluminum heads are expensive, You would want shorty headers, and on mine i put a Mega Flow 3" dia. exhaust on, single in & duals out the back end. The key is to match everything, (pistons, cam, intake, carb. heads. exhaust). I just built a motor for my truck, but i wanted a go fast motor, ended up with 400hp.
