Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi everyone.Yesterday while driving to Pietermaritzburg, my fuel gauge was
working perfectly( showing half tank ) .After driving about 80kms , switched
off and started the van about 3 hours later .Fuel gauge showed full tank ,
drove for a few minutes and then fuel gauge showed empty ( fuel light on)
.Drive a bit , then gauge showed full agan..we went to the filling station and
filled about 15 litres in , but still no change.I'm guessing the float might have
fallen into the tank or is jammed.Could someone please give me some
advice on what the problem could be and how to have it sorted out. Thanks in
advance..Ajay ..Ps , sorry for selecting the wrong info in the "related car
"section , couldnt find Ford Bantam here..

The section is under Ford Bantam, you have to click on the seach twice. No problem ! Perform a cluster self test : Ignition OFF, press the ODO trip button in and hold it there, then IGN switch on and hold the trip button in and check that TEST comes up on the LCD display. Press the ODO trip button , the Speedo and RPM dials will move to full sweep and back to zero, press the trip button again and the fuel and temp buttons will go to full and off, Some ware as you press the trip button it will show you Fuel. that will be the resistance in the fuel gauge in the tank. When the engine is idling, is there a slight hesitation every about seven seconds ? If there is this will indicate there is a communication problem between the PCM and the cluster. Check the fuses and the relays first and then check the wiring.

Hi , thank you so much for your help. I will need to try this when i get home this afternoon .I did check the fuses already and they all look fine. I didnt hear or feel any resistance when the van is idling , but i think i should listen a bit closer , now that i know what to look out for..Thanks again for your help .
