More than likely the door sensor has gone bad. Does the door ajar light come on ever ( with either door open or closed) ?

It sounds like there may be a wire that has gone bad, or the light bulb is acting up, try replacing bulb too.

Todd, there might be a dial to the left of your steering wheel just above the "info, setup, reset" buttons. Rotate that dial until you feel a soft click. This will allow your dome light to turn on when you open the doors. Also, if you use the "setup" button 4 times, you can adjust the length of time the dome light stays on under the "auto lamp (sec)" option.

SAME problem here. Overhead light could be turned ON using the overhead switch, itself, but the light wouldn't turn on when any door was opened. Turns out it was the dimmer switch/wheel being in the OFF position, good grief! Sounds silly, but THANK YOU for posting this question, Todd1234....and for Dhuma306 answering it. NO question is dumb, I've learned that long ago. We are ALL in the 'dumb question & answer club'! Gotta love the Internet!!!

Just went through this on my 2010 Escape. The guy above who shows the little hand wheel on the dash is correct.

Dhuma306, thank you posting this. I grabbed one of my kid’s cars this morning instead of mine. Couldn’t figure out how to turn off the dome light. You saved the day,
